  • Solo dev here too mate. Nothing grinds my gears more too, but one thing. Knowing my software causes grief to my non-paying users. Especially grief I didn’t intend and could have avoided.

I tried to say it as kind as possible. If these bugs continue, people will just go to an alternative and this app will just die off, and then their work would have been for nothing.

  • Ok, let’s take this a notch further then.

These are not just users having a bad day. In some cases these are repeat offenders or agitators who have been banned but want to come back.

There’s already a higher barrier to entry on a lot of instances. Back when I made this account, I had to apply for it, and it had to be manually approved.

On my OTHER hand, there is IMHO a problem with overactive mods on the larger communities. I’m seeing the same mods modding several 1k+ subscriber communities with very high activity, and they are supper trigger happy with permabans. Permabans without warning, without prior tempban, straight up permaban. This will drive a bunch of people mad and drive them to create new accounts on a different instance just to bypass the ban.

This in turn is causing inflation in the new signups too.

But a delay in being able to comment / post for new users would prevent ban-evasion, but equally, I would much prefer that mods can’t be getting such batshit workloads as volunteers making them more likely to be compassionate and not instantly go for nuclear options at the slightest sign of trouble.

It’s not straightforward of course, but I do appreciate the discourse we’re having here.

  • I understand your scepticism. I once thought like this too, but this is different.

    Consider:

    • we have nothing to lose
    • this is not a case before the court. It is before the people.
    • thousands of people have already seen large parts of the files. All it takes is one whistleblower. If we want them to come forward I want them to see my type of comments
    • he has no way out of this apart from diverting our attention and delaying. If we stop caring he wins.
    • once the files are out, either he steps down, stripping him from presidential immunity, or even the lamest congress in centuries will remove him.
    • once he is stripped of presidential immunity, Jack Smith can sue him in a civil case which is already built and ready to go.
    • if congress does not remove him, they would be wholly complicit in protecting a proven child rapist.

He will do everything to suspend elections, to keep him in the White House. This is afaik, the single pressure point he doesn’t like talking about. It exposes how his masters (Putin and Netanyahu) control him. It exposes the corrupt class that financed him (Gates, Thiel, etc) and the “allies” who are forsaken to keep him honest (UK royal family and more).

This doesn’t require nothing but our central focus on ONE issue, knowing he will keep doing harm and seek attention by doing gravely dangerous things.

The moment we stop being reactionary, and start driving the single narrative until he is gone, is the moment he lost.

And I ask you, between spending our energy on that, or spending it on getting outraged at his next venture, which one is more worthy of our limited time and energy?
