Taffer is a curse word in the Thief video games which I grew up on. I don’t even like laffy taffy that much.
Taffer
Even more boring than I’d have you believe.

Taffer@lemm.eeto Murdered by Words@feddit.uk•deadmau5 claps DJ "3lau" for DJing at Trump's inauguration aftersEnglish91·6 months agoWhat the other commenters said, but if there was drama it’d probably be due to the fact that deadmau5 used to be one of the biggest assholes in EDM. He might be nicer now, but back in the day I’d never heard of someone having a pleasant interaction with him.
Taffer@lemm.eeto News@lemmy.world•Duolingo sees 216% spike in US users learning Chinese amid TikTok ban and move to RedNoteEnglish9·6 months agoIt depends on the language tbh. Several languages on duolingo are decent ways to dip your toes in the water for language learning, I’ve heard good things about the Spanish, German, and Mandarin courses. But it’s really dependent on the language, I tried Duolingo’s Irish course and it was so bad that I’m still trying to unlearn a good amount of misinformation, really soured language learning for me even though I eventually got a good course elsewhere.
And also Baldurs Gate 3 for some reason

Taffer@lemm.eeto Games@sh.itjust.works•Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Clumsy, Preachy Political Messaging Does More Harm Than GoodEnglish4·8 months agoAh, my only context was what little I’ve picked up about Krem and Dorian(as well as an explanation about how the Qun is sexist to the point of wrapping around to be progressive), and assurances from people that the games have always been like that.
Even still, from a 15 year old series, that still manages to be a lot gayer than most.
Taffer@lemm.eeto Games@sh.itjust.works•Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Clumsy, Preachy Political Messaging Does More Harm Than GoodEnglish164·8 months agoI am nonbinary, I haven’t played a Dragon Age game before Veilguard, I haven’t yet gotten to this one scene that’s apparently damned the entire franchise, nor have I even met Taash(?) yet. Here’s my off the cuff rambling thoughts:
I’ve just now watched the scene devoid of context, and if that’s where the misgendering conversation started and stopped, I think everyone is wildly overreacting. The first minute is fine, a weird older lady apologizes for screwing up in her own way, I’ve had people react in much stranger ways than that, and in it’s own way “Whoops I fucked up, lemme do some push ups to show I feel bad” is kinda sweet. I’ll concede that the explanation after was heavy handed, but you could definitely include the gist of it somewhere else easily. “Don’t be weird, just say sorry and move on” is the correct advice to give to someone who doesn’t know how to interact with trans people but wants to be supportive. If that last minute of the conversation happened somewhere else in the game, it’d have been fine.
The game overall has been mediocre so far, a solid 6 out of 10, nothing to write home about, but certainly not deserving of the flak it’s been getting. This is one of the first games I’ve played where I feel like I’m represented, I think it might be the first major game where you can make a custom character who’s explicitly transgender, and that counts for something in my book.
From where I’m standing, it really feels like a lot of the outrage DA:V is drawing comes from some discomfort(conscious or no) with having the queer experience very out in the open for everyone to see, which is what I would expect from a series that (as far as I can tell) has always had tons of explicitly queer characters. I’m sure that’s not universally the case, but I simply don’t buy this narrative of “I’m fine with trans people, but the way it’s written is so clunky.” because I’ve had almost the polar opposite experience. I can think of few other games that talk about transness in the way that actual trans people talk about it.
No that’s the Rubicon. Rubric is the guy who directed The Shining
Oh wow I remember loving their work when I was on Twitter. The atmosphere with all of their pieces are so cool and unique. Shame all of their work seems basically impossible to look at without making a Twitter account 😕
Taffer@lemm.eeto Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit has become the face of enshittificationEnglish19·1 year agoChanging the url to sh.reddit.com lets you get around it. Been using that when I’ve needed to look up a reddit thread at work.
I do this too. Instead of minis, I tape a drawing onto a Starburst and whoever kills the monster gets to eat the Starburst. I’m gonna have to get something like a donut for the boss fight at the end of the adventure I’m running rn.
The app Alarmy saved my ass on this. You can set it so you have to do stuff like math problems in order to shut off the alarm.
Though eventually I just started getting really good at doing math while half asleep.
You may still dislike it now, but I’d recommend giving it another chance. I replayed it last year and now it feels like a stripped down version of God Of War 4(and maybe Ragnarok too but I haven’t played). Valravn was rough for sure though, cant blame you getting frustrated. I remember stopping there the very first time I played, it took a break of a few months before I came back and finished the whole thing.
Taffer@lemm.eeto World News@lemmy.world•JK Rowling, Joe Rogan and Elon Musk are fuming over Scotland’s hate crime lawEnglish7·1 year agoThe term you’re looking for is cisgender. Trans = “on the other side of”, cis = “on this side of”
We can clown on the dude without using that kind of language in a demeaning way.
Absolutely, there’s a lot of stories that would have been better received as their own original IPs. Unfortunately, it’s a lot safer to make a sequel so you can count on sales from the pre-established fanbase. Another good example I always go to is the Thief video games, where I got my username. The reboot dramatically changed all the mechanics and ditched a lot of what made the first games so engaging, very little aside from a few proper nouns has any resemblance to the original. It could have been a decent stealth game if it sold itself on its own merits(it certainly wasn’t terrible) but as a Thief game, it justifiably got fans upset.
It could have been an acceptably decent movie if it wasn’t trying to be part of the GitS franchise. As a GitS fan I hated it, but I wonder if it could have been more fun to watch if I was unfamiliar with the series. I remember thinking the same with a lot of movies based on books I hadn’t read like Percy Jackson, the movie became a lot worse after reading the source material.
God Thi4f is an obscure pull but with my username I obviously feel the pain on that one.
Once you hit a certain threshold of account age/edit count, you don’t have to go through the draft submission process, you can just add an article to mainspace. That said, unless you know what you’re doing with writing an article, it’ll probably get moved back to draftspace.
