Yeah i suppose any form of payment that you have to keep secret for some reason is a reason to use crypto, though I struggle to imagine needing that if you’re not doing something dodgy
avoiding scams for p2p transactions
Wat. Crypto is not good at solving that, it’s in fact much much worse than traditional payment methods. There’s a reason scammers always want to be paid in crypto
boycotting the banking system
What specifically are you boycotting? The money that backs your crypto (i.e. that you bought it with) still sits in a bank account somewhere and continues to support the banks. All you’re boycotting then are payments, but those are usually free for consumers (many banks lose money on them) so you’re not exactly “sticking it to the man” by not using them. Evem if you were somehow hurting banks by using crypto, if you think the people that benefit from you using crypto (crypto exchange owners and billionaires that own crypto etc.) are less evil than goverment regulated banks, you’re deluded.
What about avoiding international payment fees?
You’ll spend more money using crypto for that, not less
Time to move to a new country

miridius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•I landed a remote job for a European company, and now I'd find it hard to go back to a US-based company — I feel spoiled by the perksEnglish2·23 days agoThanks, you said what I wanted to say but better. Let’s not forget that CDU have been in power for the majority of the time for decades, and Germany is far left of the USA despite Democrats being in power for roughly half that same time. So the proof is in the pudding, so to speak
miridius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•I landed a remote job for a European company, and now I'd find it hard to go back to a US-based company — I feel spoiled by the perksEnglish1·23 days agoGerman people are just generally not very open to talking to strangers in general, so making friends with them takes a while. But there are so many expats here that you can easily make friends with instead so it’s not bad really
miridius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•I landed a remote job for a European company, and now I'd find it hard to go back to a US-based company — I feel spoiled by the perksEnglish1·23 days agoI’ve lived in both Germany and the USA (very blue state) and strongly disagree with this. It’s incredibly easy and cheap to immigrate to Germany and you get the same rights as any European, in the USA you have to jump through a million hoops and constantly fight for the right to stay, you can get ejected so easily
miridius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•I landed a remote job for a European company, and now I'd find it hard to go back to a US-based company — I feel spoiled by the perksEnglish2·23 days agoI think it’s actually pretty debatable. Merz is left of Biden on some big issues, like being in favour of universal health care, and supporting unions and workers rights. One could argue that Biden is left of Merz on immigration and climate action but Germany is soooo far left of the USA there and so both of them are just pushing back towards a mid point, I very much doubt a USA under Biden would ever catch up to a Germany under Merz on those issues
The desire to overtake
miridius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•I landed a remote job for a European company, and now I'd find it hard to go back to a US-based company — I feel spoiled by the perksEnglish16·25 days agoThe funny thing is that if you live in Europe and work for a US company, you also get the European perks. I really don’t understand why more Americans don’t move here
miridius@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.org•I landed a remote job for a European company, and now I'd find it hard to go back to a US-based company — I feel spoiled by the perksEnglish142·25 days agoWtf are you on about? There are a handful of hard right govts in Europe currently, but the majority of Europe is not, in fact by US standards you’d probably consider most parties here left wing (the US Democrats would be considered a right wing party here lol)
Immigration is also quite easy for an American, definitely easier than if you’re from the middle-east. If you’re capable of getting a qualified/skilled job or studying you can generally stay as long as you want in most places, and native English speakers are in demand.
This is lovely and wholesome, but you’re not the type of person the post is about.
Edit: sorry I just realised my comment was kinda glib, so let me elaborate. You didn’t specify but I assumed you approached those women with a friendly air, having a genuine desire to have a conversation with them as equals, and said something like “oh I love that album, have you listened to it?” Putting yourself in their shoes, compare that to a guy who approaches them aggressively, having a deep seated resentment for all women, and lashes out with “pretending you like that band huh? Prove it then, name 5 of their songs!”
My all time favourite is Peter F Hamilton’s Commonwealth Saga + Void Trilogy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Saga
Currently enjoying Brandon Sanderson’s various Cosmere books a ton too, although book 5 of stormlight is a bit disappointing it’s still an excellent series
