We use our TV extensively. I much prefer watching shows or movies on it, we watch Hockey and Football (Soccer). We play games on it.

Sure we all have tablets and it permits us to do things away from the big screen but our TV is the communal screen.

Hell, I’m currently looking into buying a used tv for. my bedroom because I don’t like holding my tablet to watch a show in bed.

Back when it was still working, I was using Sync for reddit so now that I’m on Lemmy, I’ve been using this. Haven’t really tried other apps to be honest

The US government doesn’t control map charts for the world. The Gulf of Mexico is International water, the US only controls a part of it. Even then, that executive order didn’t have that kind of power in itself, google is gladly enabling this shit because it’s in their best interest to stay as close to the other oligarchs.

And its not just this, if you think people are De-googling just because they made that change, you’re not looking at the big picture.

I knew it was happening to some extent but the impact it had on my life was minimal… Now the US government is at war with people like me, it is simply normal that I yeet anything that’s linked to those efforts and that I stop using services from mega corporations that will work with Trump to make all of his insane agenda come true.

Plus I’m not from the US so at this point and with Google being so close to Trump I trust them as much as I trust Tencent with my data, which is to say not at all.

I’ve been using Tom Tom for a week and I’m gonna say, it’s doing the job. It could be better though. I’m hoping that some better app comes along otherwise I’ll just go back to Waze and use a dummy account on it or something.

Because supporting the US economy from outside of it right now is ludicrous and Amazon is a union busting mega corporation that destroy local economies…

Now, I’m not a Kobo corporate shill, I don’t care which device you get, I did say there are other ereaders you can get, pick whatever you want. You don’t care about thr trade wars, you can get a Nook or Remarkable. You care but don’t like Kobo? You can buy an Onyx or another Chinese brand. You can use your phone, an old tablet whatever you want.

Personally, I’ve never not found a book on kobo but if it happened and it wasn’t at my library, I’d find alternative to buying on amazon, I’d get it physical or find other ways to get it.

You want to continue using amazon products and contribute to the success of Bezos and his billionaire friends, that’s your prerogative but a lot of us are not ready to do that for the sole sake of minor convenience.

Yeah I got the libra colour and it’s really great for the buttons. Didn’t really care about the colour part but the regular one was out of stock when I got it so I just went with it and I’m finding I enjoy it a lot. Especially when I read picture books for mt kid’s bedtime

Only way you believe this is if you’re extremely priviledge so that politics don’t impact your life or ignorant about the fact that it does.

Do yourself a favour, switch to Kobo or a third party ereader… Especially if you’re not in the US.

Yeah, people like me and I assume you, who used to browse reddit via a third party app or with RES + an adblocker on pc did not see it but it’s a bit insane how much ads there’s already on reddit right now. I migrated to GNU and firefox last week and forgot to add the extensions as I was just looking for some information in the Endeavour subreddit and I was shocked at the state of “default” reddit… I’m glad I left and I hope most of the userbase will…

And yeah you’re right, Google domain is squarespace but my whole setup is using their tools and I also want to move everything out of the usa, preferably to Canada as I’m Canadian but I’ll settle for Europe when nothing is available here.

I started last week. Been contemplating doing it for a while and this whole disgusting series of events pushed me over the edge.

Cancelled every paying google services I had and I’ve been replacing their apps with alternatives slowly but surely.

For now it looks like this on my phone

• Tidal replaces youtube music
• Tom Tom replaced Waze unless I find something better
• Back to using firefox instead of chrome with google / Facebook tracking blocking extensions and more
• Got a proton mail and in the process of moving everything that matters to it

Only thing I would love that I can’t get right now is an alternative OS for my phone that I don’t have to tinker a lot with, I know rhey exist but everything I read on the subject basically says: don’t bother. Setting up Endeavour OS on my laptop is already a lot of work for a 42 year old Linux noob like me, even though it’s far from the most complicated distro from what I understand…

I also set another launcher on my smart tv, deactivated all the google accounts that I could and I’m in the process of setting up a plex server on my laptop which I’ll fill with loot from the High Seas. It’s really stupid of them because I was fine paying for the convenience of streaming but now I’m gonna make a point of not doing it and I’ll probably never gonna come back.

Next, I need to figure out how to migrate my website / domain out of google but that’s a next week problem. By the end of the winter, I should be properly google / Microsoft free.

It’s a harsh process I’m not gonna lie but it is very rewarding even though, I don’t lie to myself about the fact that it’s just another drop in the bucket and it’s not gonna change much in the end but at least I live better with myself by doing it.
