Just because it’s not forbidden to post US politics somewhere does not mean you have to flood the place with it.

  • Unless they use salt water they draw from the same supply of groundwater or surface water as drinking water.

Drinking water is usually surface water or groundwater pumped from a lake/river or a drilled hole in the ground passed through a filter, an UV light to kill bacteria, and possibly some chemicals added to get the correct pH.

The limiting factor for how much drinking water you can make is how much you can pump out of the ground/lake before it dries up.

  • Northern Europe:

There is an issue with effort vs cost in the store. The easy stuff is usually really cheap in the store (eg potato). The expensive stuff (eg paprika) usually requires a greenhouse to survive. I’ve tried growing it indoors in the window but they don’t thrive there.

One exception I can think of is strawberries. Reasonably easy, space per plant is low, somewhat expensive in the store.

If you have a tiny yard you can try red/blackcurrants and raspberries.

  • How much does it cost to transport x kWh of electricity from outside of town into town?

How much does it cost to build an elevated platform, lift the panel up there, rent a lift once in a while to enable routine maintenence?

The reasons you don’t see this done is not because noone thought about it, it’s because it does not make economical sense (yet).

  • They only generate value when there are enough cars parked that need charging. How do you make sure that utilization is high?

Solar panels are expensive buy and install. They are good when they are used to their full potential. But installing them anywhere just cause it’s a flat surface is not a good idea.

  • Occasionally you have to throw food that is spoiled. Not buying it in the first place is better. I’m very good at this, my gf is not. She eats half a corn cob, puts the rest in the fridge and two weeks later i have to throw it out after I find it grazing on the lettuce.

Most meat you can buy in bulk and split into smaller packages freeze If you have the freezer space. Vegetables are usually not cheaper in bulk here outside the occasional buy two for $X deal and they don’t survive the freezer as a rule.

You can tinker with what you eat. But it’s harder to do.

If you can stop eating candy and soft drinks that is probably the first I’d suggest. Zero nutritional value outside the sugar and a non zero cost.

Check what is most protein per $ in your area. Used to be ground beef here, but now it’s frozen chicken filet and the leaner cuts of pork.
