Her video is a perfect example of somebody having a lot of expertise in one domain and making the mistake of thinking that it’s easily transferable to a different domain. She falls into many common traps such as using no true Scotsman fallacy to defend capitalism, brushes off places like Cuba and DPRK without considering the context, and completely ignores the exploitation inherent in the capitalist system. She also appears to conflate markets with capitalism, and doesn’t even bother considering whether useful aspects of capitalism could be applied within a different framework.

Overall, it was a very superficial and disappointing video from her that immediately made me question things she talks about on subjects I’m not well versed in.

It’s so frustrating trying to converse with liberal ignorants on the topic of Cuba/DPRK/etc because the moment you talk about sanctions they immediately disregard it as a “common leftist talking point” as if it wasn’t a valid point!

And they like to peddle this notion that Marx may have had some valid points back in hist time, but it’s just ridiculous to say that any of that applies to capitalism as it is today. This is rooted both in lack of having actually read Marx, but also in lack of understanding the sheer scale of exploitation that results from modern application of capitalism. These people are completely insulated from the horrors of the system, and in my view a lot of it comes down to wilful ignorance.

Yeah that too, as if Marx just had some fringe opinions that most economists dismiss, as opposed having produced an economic theory that’s the foundation for the most rapidly developing nation on the planet.
