Hoping to help lead a congressional panel that could be in a position to hold President-elect Donald Trump accountable to the American public in the coming years, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday notified her colleagues that she is officially seeking the top Democratic seat on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

I see people always hope for a Presidential role for her, but I honestly want her and people like her in these kinds of places instead. Far more power to change things for a longer time.

Given the recent election, I think Democrats needs extroverts, populists (true ones like AOC or Bernie, not fake ones like trump, that only promise but deliver for himself). It looks like people no longer want an establishment.

    in the coming years

It’s adorable she thinks the government apparatus will still exist after the fascist takeover.

Maybe not, but wouldn’t it be worse to not try? I’m as pessimistic as they come but I don’t think giving up is an option either.

I 100% agree. It’ll suck to be her, but we need her to ask the questions and take notes. There will be more elections, and if/when Dems are back in power, it sure would be nice to have a record of the immoral, unethical, and illegal shit that the GOP did while in power.

I don’t tend to temper my online pessimism, if it’s enough to discourage anyone it was going to happen with or without me.

It actually depends on us. If we accept it in advance it will indeed be over.

The book titled On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons From the 20th Century by Prof. Snyder is a must read for today’s times.

So she’s basically just going to be the one sitting there for 4 years just screaming to Trump and his cronies going “YOU CAN’T DO THAT!”. All the while they’ll just giggle like rich schoolgirls and proceed to carry on their day.

Lady, you’re going to be against a piece of shit that has the record of two impeachments. And you’re going to think that with a Republican majority within the committee, that you’ll have sway. And you’ll also think that just wiggling your finger infront of them all to try to make guilt-less people feel guilty will do anything, is a waste of time.

Not denying, fighting against the reality. I dare say you haven’t seen any videos of her in committees asking the pointed questions that are normally glossed over. You can certainly argue about effectiveness, but if no one tries to make a difference, it will absolutely go the direction it’s going.

What do you suggest our represenatives do as an alternative? Give up? Say and do nothing for 4 years?

As painful and exasperating of a job it’s going to be, we still need idealists like AOC to go and do their best, even while in the minority.

It does mess up their storytelling time during trumped up investigations that rely on unhinged witnesses and made up evidence. Plus it wastes more of their time so they can’t do awful things quickly, always a good thing. Having to tolerate a non-submissive woman (moreso if she isn’t lily white) speaking and existing in their spaces as an equal annoys misogynists too.

You need someone who will at least try to get the truth in the public record. In case there ever is a reckoning one day.
