Norquist has been enthusiastic about Musk’s ability to generate public attention for efforts to reduce the size of government. But he suggested that the owner of a space rocket company wasn’t the right person to spearhead a congressional spending debate.

“He doesn’t know politics like he knows physics,” he said.

Hey dude. He doesn’t fucking know physics either. Not any more than a 12 year old who’s played KSP for a couple days. He’s a pseudointellectual.

Elon Musk actually has a bachelor’s in physics. Dunno when he got it, but he does know more than your average person. He’s still a huge mega douche canoe sock monkey tho.

Was it given to him as a ‘you’re such a wealthy good boy oligarch’ gift by some dipshit dean? Or did he genuinely earn it?

I’m actually asking. I have no idea.

I ain’t a gambling man, but I know where I’d place my bets.

        Edit:

I looked it up. Snopes says true, but man, is there a fuck ton of inconsistencies and a large donation to penn state. Headcanon is he sucked dick for it.

“Elon Musk earned a B.A. in physics and a B.S. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. The degrees were awarded on May 19, 1997.” -Penn, 2019

I don’t know much about higher education, but Bachelor of Arts in physics sounds like BS to me.

There is very little meaningful difference between a B.A and B.S in Physics. B.A is a little less rigorous, but not by much.

That said, I don’t have confidence in Musk being able to earn either without some bullshit going on.

A BA is just the rank below master’s degree. It has nothing to do with art or science. The college degree hierarchy goes BA, Masters, PhD for most fields of study.

It’s a Bachelor of Arts, I don’t see how that detracts in anyway from him having a physics degree. I dislike Elon Musk just as much as the next guy, but there’s no reason to shit on him for not having a bachelor of science in physics.

If you’re paying that much to attend an elite educational institution you can be damn sure they’re not going to fail you. There’ll be extra targeted one on one tuition, special rewards for any improvement etc etc.

Do really think Trump exerted himself at university? No, the system looks after it’s cash cows.

No, but it’s meant for understanding a topic at a broad level so you can communicate about said topic. It’s different from a Bachelor of science which delves more deeply into the topic and you can certainly call yourself an engineer with this kind of degree. You cannot call yourself an engineer or a scientist with a Bachelor of Arts (physics).

It very much depends on the university. You can’t make any consistent claims about either without talking about a specific school.

You cannot call yourself an engineer or a scientist with a Bachelor of Arts (physics).

I’m from Australia and there are no BA(Physics) here, only BS(Physics) and you can only call yourself an engineer if you have the right degree, approved by engineers Australia and/or IEEE. Having the title of engineer here is similar to the medical doctor title.

Edit: Though the tone of your response makes sense to me now that I think of it. My husband’s company recently hired a senior software engineer from the states and he’s turned out to be no better than the local engineering graduates despite having over 20 years experience.

Like I said - it depends on the university.

Cambridge and Oxford only do BA. Harvard has a BA for physics as well. They offer both for computer science - and the difference is subtle. The ba degree allows for non-concentration electives.

BA is not simply “an overview” full stop.

It will affect their paychecks. Same with the military and other essential services. Generally, they can’t shut down those offices, but they also can’t pay them except in cases where the money was already put into accounts for paying those things.

I remember this from 2019. It took about a month for the pilot/flight attendant/ATC unions to put ‘urge’ and end to the shutdown for safety concerns, this is part of their statement:

Due to the shutdown, air traffic controllers, transportation security officers, safety inspectors, air marshals, federal law enforcement officers, FBI agents, and many other critical workers have been working without pay for over a month. Staffing in our air traffic control facilities is already at a 30-year low and controllers are only able to maintain the system’s efficiency and capacity by working overtime, including 10-hour days and 6-day workweeks at many of our nation’s busiest facilities. source

I’m afraid I’m team TSA-is-pageantry. However, TSA should not go without pay regardless and ATC being stressed about finances concerns me.

Tesla 100% is and could not have been squandered more effectively if you showed up wanting to do so. They were THE EV marketplace powerhouse, now they’re a laughing stock and the stock price is only held up by Musk’s political interference.

SpaceX isn’t actively managed by Musk at all and it shows. Legend says they have a team of employees specifically dedicated to running interference when he shows up, which I believe, because they don’t actively shoot themselves in the foot constantly.
