I’m not sure if this would be technically possible with the current Lemmy API, but has Summit ever considered adding a live search suggestion feature?
Basically, when a user types in the search bar (for communities, posts, comments, users, etc.), the app could update search results in real time with each key press—similar to how Reddit’s app or site shows dynamic suggestions as you type.
This would make searching much faster and more intuitive, especially for new users trying to discover communities or when the user isn’t sure of the exact name of what they’re looking for.
If possible, it could even include:
Recent or trending community suggestions
Previously visited or subscribed communities
Quick “jump to” options for matching communities
This small UX improvement could make Summit’s search experience feel both smoother and more modern.
When typing a community or a username by starting with ! or @, Summit already does dynamic suggestions. It seems as if that should be possible for the search bar as well.
