Europa Universalis 4 forced historical events while also advertising it as a sandbox. For example: no matter how stable you are as netherlands. As soon as you end your golden age your country will go into a civil war that if you have collonies you can barely get out of. Because “well it was in history like that”
I disagree as part of being a history 4X means that peopl will expect historical events to occur. And PI have repeatedly made it clear that they want their games to have an expansion/contraction element to make each playthrough feel unique beyond just the pop-up stories that occur. Civilizations trnd to collapse/struggle at the conclusion of theor Golden Age. Just look at The UK and US for a modern example.

In CK3 you can change some forced historical events, can you not in EU4?
Nope! :)
The whole point is to shake up the game. That’s why CK2 and the mongols and Aztec invasions and Stellaris has mid game and end game crisis.
But is it a good mechanic to force something like that in that way onto the player? I say no.
