The Bard from The Bard’s Tale
Rufus from Deponia
Rufus is as unlikeable as you can get. Still hate him with a passion.
While I like the first game (only one I’ve completed), I’m struggling to continue with the rest because I just dislike Rufus that much. I just really hope he would grow as a character, but everyone I’ve talked about the games are saying it’s not a thing that happens… :/
He does gain some redemption by the end of the third one, but yea I agree the vast majority of the time he’s a twat.
well. So far you’re the first to claim that, but it does give me some strength to muster through the series. I kinda do want to know what happens
That’s us. Played the first game with my wife but while the artwork was and still is fantastic, I just couldn’t get over how the characters were written. Rufus wasn’t just goofy, he was an utterly unlikeable brat. And calling his love interest and the female protagonist “goal” and have her split up into her different personalities which consist of a baby, a jerk and another jerk was just too much. All persons in that game were horribly written imho and it really keeps me away from the sequels.
at least the other characters’ attitude towards Rufus was (imo) justified, cause and effect and all that.
I did start the second game in the series, but was so put off by the tutorial - where Rufus tries to get some tool from a box, but fucks up so hard that he pushes a grandma’s pet parrot through garbage disposal. It was played for comedy, sure, but I hated every moment of it.
Sure, main characters of point & click games tend to cause all kinds of mischief along the way, but Rufus’ actions just feel … wrong?
I’d say he’d fit better on “opinions are divided” row.
Quite a few peeps loathe the character
