Deep Impact (1998)
It got less attention because Armageddon came out at the same time, but its a way better apocalypse movie.
I agree, i enjoyed it more than Armageddon. Its also more realistic story.

Gotta love Ellie
Day After Tomorrow (2004)
YES! I rewatched recently. I thought it would age poorly but it’s still extremely watchable.
I don’t like the part with the wolves on the ship. Always skip that part on every rewatch. Otherwise it’s very entertaining.
Not that there’s anything wrong with skipping something, but I’m curious why you don’t like that section?
It just felt kinda boring and anticlimactic for me so I skip it.
Independence Day (aka ID4) was just a fun, fun time.
Don’t Look Up
This movie is depressing
Honestly, it makes me feel more at peace about our likely demise. I rewatch it when I’m feeling especially pessimistic.
Is this like when you got a score of 255 in and old video game and it loops back 'round to 0?
Are you asking if it’s so depressing that it becomes uplifting? Not exactly what I meant. The message of the movie is that we’re all in this together. Of course we should be doing everything possible to minimize climate change, but when shit hits the fan, you can either hoard money, guns and food, or you can be present with the people who really matter.
I live in a city that was (rightfully) torn apart after George Floyd was murdered. I suddenly became afraid of my neighbors. Who could I trust? How would I protect my family? Would I be forced to choose between protecting my parents and protecting my partner and my dogs? How would I protect my food and valuables? Would I have to get a gun?
That last question snapped me out of my delusion. I refuse to be controlled by fear. When things get bad, I will not be someone who slams the door on my neighbors. I won’t fucking shoot someone because they need food and I have food. I will share what I have and we’ll work together.
28 Days Later
There is also 28 Weeks Later (2007) very good and underrated zombie movies.
The opening of Weeks is better but i felt like the rest of Days was better
I could only take it seriously until
spoiler
the helicopter scene.

Contagion (2011) remains the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, even now that I’ve lived it. Just imagining an encephalitic virus with a 20-30% mortality rate like the one depicted in the movie makes me nauseous. (Loosely based on real life Nipah virus.)
Jude Law selling the fictional version of ivermectin was an eerie prediction.
If we’re going “so bad it’s good” I’ll give you The Core.
I LOVE The Core. It is so stupid on every level that it’s fantastic.
Fun fictional movie but there is almost zero or zero science behind it.
You said disaster movie, not scientifically accurate documentary.
Yes, was just sharing my thoughts =)
Mars Attacks! of course.
Because the disaster part is so fundamentally ironic.
Cloverfield. I watch it often something about it makes me want to rewatch it often
Zombieland
“Love and monsters” was a great scary conceptualism about humans living in a post apocalyptic bug world but kept it light and comical. Great intro showing the realism of that world followed by a great comical story line. I’ve seen other descriptions calling it a better “zombieworld”.
The Poseidon Adventure (1972). Fantastic set design. All star cast. Oscar winning theme song. Irwin Allen was the master of disaster.
I actually liked the remake movie more Poseidon (2006) but original was good too.
Dr. Strangelove
Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here! This is the War Room!
“… They were going to annouce it on Thursday.”
Cats (2019)
Cats is disaster related?
Well it is a disaster (of a) movie :)
The Last of Us absolutely blew me away.
