Enquiring minds want to know!
Answers welcome here, in the pol.is conversation, or in a CryptPad form. There’s also a series of Mastodon polls here if you prefer (or if you want to see what others think).
To use less of it.
Not to be flippant but although the Fediverse is definitely housing a lower number of people that make social networks a negative influence are still present and accounted for. Combine that with the similar mix of positive vs. negative content and it’s still not a place that I want to spend much time on.
Lemmy/Piefed is the only social network I frequent and while I’m incredibly thankful for it, without an unwavering dedication to maintaining block lists for users, communities and instances, it’s still a net negative influence in my life.
Two things come to mind:
a) Fedi really needs to grow beyond “Twitter clone for nerds”…most of the infra is already good, it’s more of a marketing problem now.
b) if ATProto doesn’t meaningfully evolve beyond Bluesky this year, it’s cooked at any hope of being convincingly decentralized. Time to put up or, well, y’know.
My money is on (a) being much more likely than (b), but we’ll see.

ATProto is unable to be decentralized, by design. Bsky.social has a moderation right on all inter-instance communication. Other instances can only affect what comes in or out their instances.
Also BlueSky’s people sold it to really horrible people once. They will do it again.
But there have been so many people out there claiming that ATProto really is a form of decentralized social media. All I’m saying is, OK. Let’s see it! C’mon! Do it! I’ll happily join the first truly decentralized public ATProto platform with no reliance on bsky infra or policies.
Full portability including posts. Very customizable apps
To keep not using it.
That post I saw on Mastodon a couple of years ago about how the poster doesnt want any household appliances that beep when theyre finished and it was quite funny but now the post doesnt seem to exist anymore.
I clicked through all of the Polis statements. To a lot of them (maybe even half) I thought “but we already have that on Piefed”
I’m looking for there to be less of it.
Less talking, more action. If decentralized discussion is the basis for a healthy society let’s build that society, the tech is a means not an end
