While a POW his father was named commander of all US forces in Vietnam. The Vietnamese offered to release him then as a propaganda tool, but he refused.

I don’t think you understand the mindset of soldiers once they graduate from the academy. They eat a shit sandwich and they know it, but they’ll be the gordamn best shit eaters there are

He knows it makes him look bad, makes the military look inept and poorly run that he’s commander in chief over, and he has no one left to blame. He hand picked everyone running this shit show.
