The KIDS Act, ostensibly aimed at protecting children, will raise the risk for journalists, dissidents, and whistleblowers.

Anyone who thinks this shit is about “protecting children” is either hopelessly naive or wilfully ignorant.

They will use fake IDs. Anyone who thinks they won’t is lying to themselves or just lying to us.

and require platforms to implement age verification technology for users accessing pornographic material, among other measures.

This shit is a trojan horse. Because the next bill the Republicans push through will be to define anything LGBT+ as ‘pornographic’. So now they can block kids from accessing educational material and resources, and they can also start building a database of everyone in the country who’s LGBT+ … for reasons.

Online Age Verification Law Could Designed To Kill Whistleblowing

    FTFT.

Don’t we all just love it when even (supposedly) “leftist” media uses such limpwristed and mealy-mouthed language?

Almost all of the media is in on it. They want more of your info in order to sell more lucrative targeted ads to you.

Use fake IDs, encourage people to use and make fake IDs. Share tools to make fake IDs. They need to know how stupid and overbearing said laws are. Bonus if you make said Fake IDs and their generation easily accessible to kids.

If privacy and anonymity is a crime, then commit crimes to get it. Make sure other people think this thought too. Don’t stay silent about it. That’s what they want you to do.

This article https://www.politico.com/news/2026/06/29/kids-safety-package-wins-house-approval-00980846 estimates that that’s not especially likely. Let’s hope that is right.

Requiring platforms to collect less data, not more, is a better approach.
