I like this picture. I’ve seen schools like this, except the ones I’ve seen are preserved and part of a museum exhibit.
The only thing that is slightly annoying about this picture is the person who took it obviously placed books and papers on some desks to make it look more dramatic. I’d have rather seen it without added props.
Oh, you took this? I’m sorry, I should have asked. I know a lot of instagrammers will set props in abandoned locations, and so I jumped to an unfair conclusion. My bad.
Do you think it’s possible that some other people may have been here previously and set the props? I live in South Dakota where we definitely have some abandoned schools similar to this one, but I also know teens and other people often find them and mess around because life is so boring here lol
Possible. The rural municipality that cares for the property may have added it as well to give it a sense of realism too, I have no idea.
The schoolhouse is out in the middle of nowhere in Manitoba Canada about a half hour from my house so it’s not very well known aside from some of the locals out here.
There is a few other old schoolhouses but most of them are in much worse shape, like this one.
Pigeons got in through one of the broken windows and crapped all over the place.
I love these pictures, so thanks for sharing. Even though I’m too young to have attended one of these schools, my dad did, and it always makes me think of him.
Also, I’ve been to Manitoba. My husband and I have road tripped to Winnipeg, which is a surprisingly interesting city, kind of a hidden gem in my opinion.
I was born and raised in wpg, although I moved out an hour southwest to raise my daughters. Interesting is one word for it, although it’ll always have a place in my heart.
Probably was staged by previous people at the very least.
I absolutely share your sentiment about people staging abandoned places. Drives me nuts…
There was a rule against staged photos on r/AbandonedPorn which I was happy about. There’s such an incredible natural beauty with abandoned places and they shouldn’t be disturbed.
I remember arguing with one poster back on reddit who said they didn’t staged their photo, but there were fresh real flowers in the pic! Not saying OP is lying here tho.
Edit: oh shit, this is AbandonedPorn on lemmy! Didn’t even realize. Subbed now.
Actually if I remember correctly, one of the books (I think the one laying open in the middle of the first pic) was a guestbook. The others, I don’t remember what they were. (I took these pics a few years back while wandering around)

Nope. I took the pic and didn’t touch anything. That is literally how it was when I went into the place.

Oh no problem. It struck me as odd when I saw everything as it was too. I’m still not sure where the doorknob sitting on the one desk came from.

I’m from rural South Dakota, so I’m easily impressed lol
