I miss having a women’s community where we can post relatable memes - I haven’t found anything like that on lemmy yet. So here goes nothing!

Why would you have a “non hair wash” day? I wash my hair whenever I take a shower.

I am sitting here at work, 3 hours after washing my hair, after blow drying it for 15 minutes, still waiting for it to dry and looking like a drowned rat. My hair isn’t even long, about shoulder length now and layered, it’s just thick and slow drying hair.

If it got wet every time I showered it would probably mildew, it would never have time to get completely dry.

When you have very long hair or complex hairstyle washing it may take a long time. It doesn’t make sense to spend 1.5h on washing your hair every time you take a 5 min shower.

I don’t do a complete non-wash. But it makes a noticeable difference over time if once or twice a week you don’t use soap. Soap washes off all the oils on your hair which causes your scalp to over-produce oil which can be unpleasant or bad.

While the comments about drying are true, there may be more reasons. Washing your hair is TERRIBLE for your scalp. This might not be a huge deal for some, but people who have a natural tendency to allergies and skin irritations suffer from shampoo. There’s also that whole topic of washing your hair often actually makes your scalp produce more oil leading to dirtier hair and a vicious cycle of washing more and more often, but it’s an entirely different discussion.
