Hello, in the last months I habe taken an interest in the journey trans people go trough to be officially recognized as the gender they are and the surgical operations many go through to adapt their body to their Gender, how it differs in different states, and what can be done to improve this. Unfortunately (as you have probably read in the last sentence) I have no idea about anything regarding this topic. Therefore, I am asking if you know any worthwhile books, websites or any other resources where I can inform myself about these topics, preferably they should be in English or German, but I can just as well use a translator if it is any other language. Thank you for your answers in advance!

I really like the work that Abigail Thorn does on Philosophy Tube. She has also been doing her channel long enough that you have her thoughts on transphobia before she transitioned, her coming out video, and one that covers her experiences with transitioning.

    Hello,

This website has a ton of literature on every subject related to trans people. Take some of the stuff with a grain of salt, since there is some transphobic literature on there for educational purposes. You should be able to find what you’re looking for on here, though.

Okay, I don’t have a single book that perfectly relates to everything you said, but I’ve got a small list of books I that relate to transness and gender as a whole. I’m going to put them in a rough order of “approachability” with the first being a good primer to thinking about gender and inclusivity and the last being very academic and in depth historical analysis. All links provided take you to bookwyrm pages, a Fedi book info and review site.

I’d like to make it clear these are by no means the end all be all of books on transness. They are just the books I’ve read over the last few months. I’m not even sure how the broader community feels about all these books. I am recommending them solely because I didn’t actively dislike them, and in most cases enjoyed them, and they effectively got me thinking about my own journey and trans experience.

    Beyond the Gender Binary

    Real Queer America

    The Descent of Man

    Glitch Feminism (a personal favorite)

    Black on Both Sides

Arte has a German docu, and TED talks has some decent presentations.

Something more fictional would be the series Pose, or Veneno. Sense8 has a trans character, but doesn’t go into the topic itself so much, which can be nice.

As to books, I’ve tried a few fiction ones but didn’t find them particularly good.

Yeah there’s this one woman who has been a busdriver her entire life and comes out to her boss, it’s even on camera. She’d always go into nature to be herself and would take pictures, which I really identify with.

It might have been Swiss German, in that case just have eine Mass.
