We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to c/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!

Day 361. MIL is in hospice now. My wife is about to fly across the country to see her. Need to tell the kids after school.

    I will not drink today.

Day 7! Yesterday was really rough - super stressful day and the only way I knew to deal with it was drinking. Instead I gritted my teeth and went to bed early. I’ve got to learn some new coping strategies, but yesterday proved I can cope.

It’s for medical reasons, but I’d like to make it stick this time since alcohol is certainly contributing to the condition. I’m on day 7 today, and work is really turning the “need a beer” screws today.

Whats the consensus on cannabis as a replacement?

Congrats on a week! It’s gets a little better every day, I hit a year in July. I can’t give an opinion on the cannabis.

Way to go on making the decision to prioritize your health! I’ll only speak to my experiences since I firmly believe that everyone’s journey is there’s alone. There are certainly folks who subscribe to the “California sober” philosophy, but it doesn’t work for me. I used alcohol as a way to numb the negative experiences in my life and escape. It didn’t help me solve the challenges I was facing and it made them more difficult to navigate. I was avoiding confronting things that required my attention. For me, any other similar substance would just be trading one vice for another. I’ve been working to incorporate positive coping mechanisms for stress and exploring other activities that bring me joy. YMMV, but that’s my $0.02.

There are no rules. People quit alcohol for their own reasons. If those reasons are not affected by thc, then in my opinion there is no harm.

I’m looking forward for it. I won’t lie that some nights I feel bored and the thought of some glasses of whiskey is very tempted. But then I remembered how I used to wake up the next day, I get back to earth quickly and forget about the urge to drink.

I still have days every now and then too. Just remind myself that it’s trading off 30 minutes for HOURS. But overall I don’t think about it. Except the daily post for everyone. 😁
