I have noticed that I switch night and day cycles during summer because it’s too hot to function in the day.

The earth is getting hotter each year due to capitalism. With how capitalism works, capitalists aren’t going to slow down or give a second thought for nature. At a certain level AC won’t be enough and workers will end up collapsing or dying… Which lowers production, so I think that maybe in like 5 or 10 years (if not now already) we’ll see some push for night shifts because it’s colder in the night, burning the earth without affecting productivity. Will also limit chilling to lit up private properties that require payment or full of consumables like a Walmart because it’s safer than idk sitting in a public park at 3 am. This will probably get spun around as a revolutionary good thing or something.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s coming. As I now understand daylight savings time, most countries have kept it for a similar reason: it’s cheaper to operate businesses when most work happens in daylight. How expensive it is for us workers to light and heat our homes in the twilight and darkness, not to mention the negative health effects of not getting enough sunlight and the twice yearly induced jetlag, is an “externality” which isn’t considered relevant.

You’re probably quite right, at some point the cost balance will tip towards night being the cheaper time to operate a business.

Well, they are discussing a “Siesta” in Germany right now, where workers need to take a mandatory, long, unpaid break in the middle of the day, because it’s too hot to work: https://lemmy.world/post/1706963 (in german)

I hate that so much. I want less time for work and more time for life.

Imagine having to spend your free time during the heat, so that you can work when it’s cold. You are losing your free time twice! You can’t even spend it. If it’s too hot for work, it’s too hot for free time.

Well people who are too tired to live are too tired to question the status quo, too tired to even care about theory and are thus perfect for the ruling class

I feel like it’d be too merciful from capitalists, but it could happen. I always wanted to be a vampire~ 🙂 /j

I feel like it’s gonna be chaotic for a while though, when people are suddenly asked to start working at night and sleep during the day. Like vampires lmao

This will probably get spun around as a revolutionary good thing or something.

    It definitely will lol :fluoridestare:

Could be used as a controlling tool. Workers that perform like good little drones get cooler night shifts. Workers that are subjected to “disciplinary action” (i.e. for trying to organise or bargain for salary) will be transferred to the heat death of a day shift

sleeping in coffins… that’s already one part of being a vampire

when are we going to start “feeding on ‘blood’”? (whatever this “blood” is going to be?)

Pretty sure I’ve already seen articles about USian oligarchs getting blood transfusions from younger people to supposedly boost their health. Can’t find it right off the bat, sorry
