  • Quite is a relative term, I’ve never had a vacuum that I would call quiet. The ones with decent power tend to be noisier, and I’d rather not waste my time cleaning with something that’s not doing the job properly. I like to listen to music or audiobooks while I do housework, (because housework is a drag), and I tend to use headphones instead of speaker because I’m moving around and also of course vacuum noise to overcome. Set of headphones might be cheaper than a new vacuum?

  • As someone who was in category one but is now in two, here’s my take on it. Category 1 is great only if you are either mechanically handy yourself, or you know people that are. Category one people are not really taking a risk, they have a cousin/freind/inlaw who can help them do work at low or no cost if needed, only parts. So if you are not in that social situation category one is more risky, because you may have to fork out $$$ if something major breaks down. Nothing wrong with having reliability and low running costs on your list of priorities for car selection.

  • Very true. These 18 year olds aren’t selected because they are into politics, social issues, emotional intelligence. They are good at kicking balls and that’s great, let’s cheer them for their athleticism. But nah, I wouldn’t be looking to them for any kind of advanced social awareness. And they are at an age where they want to be doing all the stuff regular young adults do. Bit unrealistic to think they won’t.

  • All good advice from the others. I’ll add that having some scrunched up paper under the kindling teepee helps to get things going. And depending on what kind of kindling you have, you may want to split it even further, long ways. Don’t do it neatly. The little bits of splinters sticking out will catch easier. Once it’s properly lit, add some smaller logs, cut side towards the fire. (Bark generally doesn’t light as easily) and then maintain the fire by adding more logs as needed to increase heat and not let it burn out as the initial logs get depleted.

  • The schools should hopefully be able to advise how to go about it. Also set some parameters around the story, like a word limit. And unfortunately, with the prevalence of chat GPT type tools, some kids may be tempted to generated stories and submit as their own work, so you might ask the schools how to identify and deal with that. It would be very unfair to award something to a kid that cheated. But it does sound like a fun Idea to get kids interested in writing.
