Television@piefed.social•It's time to dump RokuEnglish
45·21 hours agoIt takes such a minimal amount of effort nowadays to set up a barebones pi or laptop with Linux , hook to TV and just watch in web browser or use a graphical frontend like kodi. Theres millions of sources for doing all of this.
Oh well , my coworkers can complain to me about $250 monthly cable bills. I’ll just smile.
This is exactly what I do almost to a T, but I use an Atari VCS (not the original 🙃) and a Logitech wireless KB. Or my phone through KDE connect.
It works just fine, SO likes it. If people would try, but theyre lazier than they have ever been, and dumb. It really was not that long ago that an HTPC was somewhat common.
People only know what big tech feeds them.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Commodore announces Linux-based flip phone with ‘no social media, no browser’ — the Callback 8020 will be available in five retro colorways starting at $499, runs 99% of Android apps
1·1 day agoWell we are different in that regard. I keep shit a long time ha, so ive probably had my phone 3 years and been in a plane 5 or 6 times . my SO flies a lot more, has many times had to sprint to their gate because it changed last minute.
Plus, we dont own a printer anymore (ink=scam) so thats another hassle to go print a ticket. I’m guessing you can’t even print at home either you probably need to use the airport printer.

1·1 day agoHotel: check in to room immediately without even going to front desk, even if its 3 am.
Airline: instant update of gate changes. When you need to sprint to make your flight because thr gate changed to one a half mile away, this is something you can’t live without. TVs are getting less and less in airports now. Also, literally no one uses a paper ticket and I suspect they’ll be phased out completely in 5 years. Too easy to fake.
There are people alive today who have never once written a check (I do, often), so you can kiss all of our old analog paper ways goodbye in a few years.

Technology@lemmy.world•Student Reading Ability Spikes After Removing Tech From ClassEnglish
21·2 days agoYoure the person every parent should be. The other people are the idiots for not properly teaching their children, IMO! But those parents probably aren’t tech literate themselves.so its a downward spiral.

703·2 days agoI mean its a small company. We have become too used to subsidized costs at the sake of our privacy. Know why TVs are now $200? They are literal spyware in the home. Try buying one without spyware, $999 real fast for the same TV.
Know why phone companies give you a “free” $1000 phone? Youre the product. Constantly tracked and sold. A digital slave.

Yep same. Theyre not tech literate and have no desire to learn. The oligarchy knows this.
Us nerds are a dying breed.
