INB4 there’s a new feature to let copilot play the game for you, and online shooters gets really pissed off.

… Or the bubble pop before then

I nuked the entire Game Bar for this transgression.

If CoD, Battlefield and GTA Online finally get their shit together and allow their anti-cheat to work on Linux, I am dropping Windows like a sack of potatoes. I have no time for this infinite game of whack-a-mole.

Just bite the bullet and stop supporting these shitty AAA companies, especially since EA is SA now, a majority of games work with Linux anyways and you’ll be able to find plenty of substitutes that you’ll probably end up liking more than the same reslopped titles you may be used to.

I’ve literally not found a single good substitute for CoD/Battlefield. Wild Assault has almost no players, Delta Force also doesn’t work on Linux, and there are literally ZERO games currently being sold that fit the CoD niche of 6v6 fast paced battles, other than maybe Titanfall 2, which also doesn’t work on Linux. The Finals also does not work on Linux, and neither does Splitgate 2 or Halo Infinite. And I’m not interested in playing Overwatch 2 or Marvel Rivals, I had enough of every single hero shooter after playing Overwatch non-stop for 4 years. And they probably don’t work on Linux anyways… Really, the only shooter I’d be left with would be Team Fortress 2, and I think I would go insane if I could only play that every day. Oh, and GTA V/Online is my second main game and it also doesn’t work on Linux.

And there’s also another thing… I use Clip Studio Paint to draw, and so far they have not released a Linux version.

And it’s funny you call those games “reslopped” as if Counter-Strike hasn’t been the exact same bullshit with the exact same maps, even, for 26 fucking years, and yet is still the most popular PC game in the planet. Maybe, just maybe, you should realize that long standing franchises succeed by not straying from the formula that made them work? I also don’t buy CoD every year, only the ones that I actually feel interested by. I skipped Advanced Warfare, WW2, Black Ops IV, and Vanguard, and Black Ops 6 was played exclusively on PC Game Pass (before they ruined it). And I literally NEVER bought or played a Battlefield game (other than 4 in my old account, which I hated because it took 6 business days to kill one enemy) outside of BF6, which is an actually good game.

Pretty much same - the only thing that is keeping me using Windows is Photoshop. I haven’t yet found a suitable 1:1 replacement for it that doesn’t severely disrupt or hinder my workflow.

To be fair not everybody gets a choice what OS they use. And Linux isn’t the best OS for every conceivable use case. I just want everyone to have a computer that works for them, whatever that looks like, and I’m tired of that being a hot take.

I agree with you, but I also don’t think Windows should be forced to be the OS you want if they want to appeal to their shareholders. I also think it’s perfectly reasonable to suggest Linux, because it runs on the computer you already have.

My hardware was on its way out so I became a Mac user. That’s not a viable choice for many, particularly in this economy. You need a Mac to run macOS (for the most part; Hackintosh is a thing but it’s not very stable and better options exist) and Linux is a great option for those running Windows machines.

Of course, if you must use Windows for work, that’s fine, but I wouldn’t be gaming at work. While I’d love to waste time in GeForce Now at work (because those computers can’t run shit on bare metal and they don’t have the storage for games either), it would really suck to get caught. Maybe if I make a bet with the IT guy that I can get Cyberpunk running on a work machine and have it looking pretty decent. Give him a call and have him swing by my office and blow his mind. Then show him what’s really going on (it’s a web service running in a browser). And still win the bet because “bare metal” was never specified in the bet and it’s a term we both know. Nah, I barely pull YouTube up on that thing. I’ve told the IT guy, there’s a lot I know how to do, but I do not trust Windows and no Windows machine is going to get the full range of my expertise. Partly to cover my own arse.

Time for me to get rid of Game Bar. I only use it for the volume control which gives quick access to change the volume for different apps. Can anyone suggest an alternative volume control?
