Those days are valid sick days, since if your mental health is so bad that you need a sick day to cope, you need that sick day. Mental healthcare is healthcare. Fight me on that.

Especially if you have a chronic disease, I have non stop headeachs but a great boss and I’m a programmer (more flexibility), and man a day off or work from home, every 1-3 weeks are a god send. You don’t even realise how bad you actually feel until you take a moment to breeth. My boss actually made me take my first day off when he saw how bad I looked and mental healthcare has been my priority ever since. Never forget to take care of your body AND mind.

When my new CEO (smaller company, like 50 employees maybe) found out I hadn’t used my PTO he told me to start taking some days off for my mental health, and my direct manager agrees. I like a lot of things about my current employment, I just mostly need more pay now, and I get paid pretty well compared to some.

I am never moving out of the NL. Sick days for mental health are mandated here. Sick days don’t count as PTO, there are basically unlimited sick days, and you don’t have to tell your employer why you take them. All that’s mandated by law.

Very nice. Our company just moved to flex PTO so a bit closer to that, but I’m a little suspicious that it may just be similar ro bow people like me feel guilty using too much PTO and end up using less on flex/unlimited plans. Before this recent change sick days were definitely taken out of PTO, and AFAIK not protection to nearly that degree by law, if at all.

I had a math teacher in college who, on the first day of class, told an anecdote about her first boss. This boss told her on her first day that “sick of work” was a perfectly valid reason for calling in sick. That’s something that has stuck with me and I share that sentiment with new reports.

In the last panel instead “death” should show up and say “I’ll give you more than a day.”

That’s what I was going to say. That’s what sunday’s were supposed to be for.

At least for the burrdensome obligations.
