I don’t know much about what happened during the Winter War (Soviet Union v. Finland) but people seem to cite it as an example of Russia somehow failing. With Finland now in NATO they seem optimistic that this is going to be Winter War 2 Electric Boogaloo.

In the winter war, Russia got more than what they demanded from Finland and they were forced to sign the treaty for neutrality but I guess they joined Hitler’s group soon.

I once won a short trivia game against five pretty well-educated friends by a single point, because I was the only one who knew that the R in USSR stood for ‘Republics’, not ‘Russia’

We have a similar story in India, as you might know our Mughal kings definitely had defeated the Rajput kings and ruled Northern India but after the Hindutva nazification our government approved school book says Rajputs defeated the mighty Mughals and Mughals rewrote the history to suite them.

Ah, the classics of nationalist mythology! I think we’re still going through that in capitalist Russia, although there’s the tiny difficulty of coping with Soviet past. Kinda hard to bash the ebil commies while chest thumping about being the first to space, you know?

At least you Russians did something in 1925-1980s to feel proud of , we didn’t do anything still out nationalists think we are no.1 . And we constantly bash China for not having “democracy” . Yes a democracy where most of politicians are gang members did murders , rape one way or the other. Your libs are the worst , they would sell their mother for western democracy not much different than Indian libs but at least we have some sense of anti west feelings

Thank you for telling me this. The only thing I really knew about the war was this stupid meme I saw years ago:

Or at least one that was very similar. Just showing the Wikipedia information to essentially state how weak the Big Bad USSR was fighting against Little Baby Cutie Patootie Finland. I literally had to look up “Winter War meme” to find this and the amount of others with a similar sentiment is embarrassing as hell.

My aunt went to Finland and she says its common knowledge there that 30% of Finnish men 18-25 died in the Winter War. The USSR offered to trade land to make a buffer zone for Leningrad and Finland said no and they lost that great a percentage of their population as well as losing territory. While Soviet casualties were likely higher being on the offensive, they were proportionately nothing to the Soviets and a major generational trauma for the Finns. But flying Finnish White Death orc shooter 7 billion dead, amirite?
