minus-squareIninewCrow@lemmy.calinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up11arrow-down2·11 months agoThe Inuit (formerly called the derogatory ‘Eskimos’) have a taste for fermented whale blubber. The Scandinavians also have a taste for fermented seafood. There’s something about living in freezing weather and developing a taste for semi rotten food.
minus-squaresirjash@feddit.delinkfedilinkarrow-up9·11 months agoImagine, there are even millions of people that eat fermented milk!
minus-squareI Cast Fist@programming.devlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·11 months agoTasty, tasty fermented milk, both as liquid or solid
minus-squareVonReposti@feddit.dklinkfedilinkarrow-up8·11 months ago The Scandinavians also have a taste for fermented seafood. Excuse me, but that’s only the Swedes! We may have other weird eating habits in Denmark but surströmning ain’t one.
minus-squareArcaneGadget@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up3·11 months agoGravad laks?.. (Salted and fermented salmon)

minus-squareShapillon@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up6·11 months agoI’d wager it has something to do with living in a barren wasteland for at least half the year.
minus-squareAgent641@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up4·edit-211 months agoWhen the choice is between starve to death or eat the putrid thing, most people will eat the putrid thing. I dont think the boyfriend was at risk of starving.
minus-squareShapillon@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·11 months agoYeah no I was speaking about the scandinavians, not the bf.
minus-squareHiddenLayer5@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·11 months agoLikely because there aren’t a lot of herbs and spices where it’s cold and fermentation adds complexity to the flavour.
