A few things I can recall from his presidency was banning certain immigrants, pushing to build a wall along the southern border, and fear mongering about China and North Korea constantly. Continuing to arm Nazis doesn’t seem super far off base.

Apparently getting enough trained maintenance personnel is a problem as well as getting enough pilots. Not only are the western F-16 maintenance guys busy being retrained to service F-35’s, language skills are also a problem as all the manuals for the F-16 are in English only and you need the repair guys to be pretty good at English to understand them.

So btw the reason the US is involved in this trade is because when you buy US military planes, they don’t really belong to you. There’s especially some places of the plane you’re not allowed to open and repair yourself, you have to fly in an engineer with proper security clearance from the US lol
Yes i remember this being one of the louder controversial points when Poland was buying F-16. Polish arms industry is in pretty crappy conditions right now, but it is not entirely demolished yet and have the ability to manufacture wide range of pretty modern equipment, including most parts for fighter planes. Other potential contractors, France and especially Sweden, offered to invest and modernise polish aerial industry so we could manufacture parts, but USA demanded we buy everything there.
Of course Poland bought F-16, but the scandal about the contract terms was quickly eclipsed by USA not even adhereing to its terms (they were supposed to invest some money as an offset, but didn’t do it).
Effect: something like 1/3rd of the planes are already cannibalised for parts.
It’s cases like these I wonder what sort of backroom deals happen, because most of Europe settled for F16s and F35s (the dual submarine one) when there are perfectly fine planes from neighbours that don’t lock you into this nonsense. And at least theirs actually fly.

I think the current attacks at Russia came in a big part as consequence of China’s growth - note US woken up in 2018-19, tried to stoke shit in HK and trade war, they failed and turned to Russia as a mean of encircling China and breaking BRI.
but they made a major mistake , China was not very close to Russia and it was after Trump anti china policies and hardline hawks Xi kinda went to Putin’s side. Putin was also not very keen to make enemy out of US but it was the Ukraine issue which displeased him and his cohorts in the government. I remember clearly that it was the LDPR and KPRF who were very vocal about NATO intrusion in Ukraine but Putin was nonchalant about it. I will say Nixon and Kissinger were better in geopolitics , atleast they understood that Russia and China shouldn’t come together to kick their ass. Even now China can kick Russia’s butt if US normalizes relations with China but I think the hawks and incompetency in congress is very high.
