Whatever is a hobby I’d love that would make me enough money to live independently with good job security and build a good future with my partner.

Comment removed. I posted in haste without noticing which community I’m in. Even as an Enby, I feel like I don’t want to intrude. Apologies!

Even as an Enby, I feel like I don’t want to intrude.

Thanks for being sensitive to kluczyczka, but I also wanted to point out that enbies who feel they belong in a women’s community are explicitly welcome here - don’t exclude yourself from the women’s space just because you’re an enby if you otherwise feel you belong.

Thank you for the warmth and welcoming.

Growing up “male” and still being broadly seen that way, I really enjoy reading the conversations in this space. It helps me connect more deeply to the rest of me that was denied for so long.

I’m happy learning from this community, if I offered a perspective it’d be from that history which is frankly from a male experience. Plenty of places to get those online without me bringing that here.

This might change in time I guess. Still a messy process for me!

hey, i am happy about your affirmation of my idea … but would you mind not calling me ‘guy’? i am surprised myself about how deep that hit, knowing that there is a gender neutral nuance to it … but plz don’t.

Sorry about that, totally won’t do it again.

I was surprised by my own hesitation when I wrote it and did ponder alternatives, wish I’d gone with one of them now.

All the vaguely gender neutral casual terms for strangers all feel like they have a gendered flavour to them for me… Dude, Bro, Fella… Do you have a preferred term for situations like this?

I’m just gonna edit it to use your name. That’s what I’d do IRL.

          Sorry again

fwiw, the sensitivity folks have for this varies … I myself was very sensitive to otherwise neutral terms like “guys” or “dude” early in transition mostly because I couldn’t distinguish when someone was misgendering me or not … but once I started to pass and my trans status became secret, “guys” no longer bothered me because it was so unlikely to be misgendering.

So it’s good to be sensitive when people give you feedback, but just know it’s not like there is a single rule that will work for everyone.

I use “comrade” myself. Albeit in its Chinese formulation: 同志. (See, while it’s unbearably stuffy in modern China, 同志 is also the term used in the LGBTQ+ community in China to refer to each other which is a really spiffy subversion of authority that I adore to pieces.)

Car repairs, seems fun but if I could instantly master it? Oooo I would be doing so many things with that power.

    What would you pick?

My Dad is a mechanic, he taught my brother, they fine tune race cars together. I, being afab, although deeply interested, wasn’t included. There’s a tafe course near me, that does the basics, if you want to go into an apprenticeship, I desperately want to go. I already have my electrotechnology cert 2. I couldn’t pursue it as a career, the electrician thing, because I have kids and no one to watch them. It was so weird being the only woman among men in the elctro course. I loved the learning, though.

Pickpocketing! It’s not like I want to use it, it’s just that I’ll never be able to learn it through practice without jail time.

A physical activiyy, like rock climbing or fencing or lifting weights. Instantly being in peak shape would be nice!

Oh! Or 3d modeling, that’d be sick!

I think wilderness survival / bushcraft - useful and something where you can be out in nature and keeping fit. Plus, if you’ve mastered it then you’ve mastered lots of other skills too (whittling, cooking, shooting, making things out of wood, navigation without instruments …)

Sewing. I can hand stitch things but I’m pretty slow. I’d love to be able to create or alter my clothes a lot faster and with a sewing machine.

I love cutting out graphics from old tshirts and sewing them onto blank shirts from the craft store. I have a Yoshi image that I’ve been sewing from shirt to shirt for about 20 years. I still get compliments when I wear it. I want to do that, but faster.

I think I’d choose sewing too. I did get a machine and I’ve made a couple of things. But a lot of patterns feel like stereo instructions. I did recently purchase a book with some patterns and instructions on tailoring. I’ve read a good deal of it. But yet to have time to begin pattern work.

I had a book called Generation T that was a lot of using existing shirts to change a look, which is what I really like to do vs following a pattern. There was also a couple in the early 2000s who do a lot of DIY videos and encouraged people who use what they already had to create new things. I can’t remember their channels name right now, but they were around for a while.

My MIL has offered to get me a sewing machine, but I need to focus on it first. Too many hobbies 😁
